Older adults and COVID-19

Please be aware that older adults often do not present with typical symptoms of COVID-19.  Older adults have less fever and may just feel “off”.  https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/23/health/seniors-elderly-coronavirus-symptoms-wellness-partner/index.html

Because they don’t have respiratory symptoms, older adults may get push back when they ask for a test. (I have heard from one person who has had this experience).

Please advocate for yourself.  When you check in with older adults please pay attention to how they are doing.

The Buck Institute for Research on Aging is doing a series of webinars focused on COVID-19.  Monday’s session featured a geriatrician who has a ton of good advice and important insights for older adults (and all of us).  This pandemic isn’t going away anytime soon, so it might be worth your time to check it out.  The webinars are free.  You just need to register to get access.
