As many of you know, Aqus Community Foundation launched the Just Join Something campaign last year to encourage people to join a garden club, a choir, Rotary, Scouts, the Lions, or any organization where we can be in real community with others.

This year, I joined the Petaluma Moose Lodge. Last year it was the Petaluma Sunrise Rotary. Before that, the Danish Soldiers Club and Hermann Sons Hall. Each led to conversations, connections, and friendships with people I would not otherwise have met.

I’m inviting friends, acquaintances, and people I haven’t met yet to recognize the value of this effort and help rekindle the kind of community our parents and grandparents took for granted. The world is shifting quickly. Rebuilding connection requires participation. Commit this year to Just Join Something. You will benefit—but more importantly, others will too.

If you’re interested in any of the organizations above, let me know. I’ve also compiled a list of member organizations in Petaluma below.

Please share this with neighbors and friends.

When you join something, do it not only for yourself, but for the people quietly watching. A nephew. A neighbor. An acquaintance. Many won’t walk into a room alone. They might after they see you do it. That example matters.
