Updates and Happenings from the Petaluma Tennis Association

Hey Players,

HOT ENOUGH FOR YOU! Wow, talk about a stretch of warm weather. Relief is right around the corner just in time for the 18+ playoffs which start this weekend. Lots to update so let’s get right to it:

Speaking about the 18+ Playoffs, Congratulations are in order as 4 out of the 8 teams that played for the PTA this season have made it to the playoffs!!!!! First is the Men’s 3.5 team lead by Toby Tyler. They finished in 3rd place and will play Wikiup on Sunday @ Wikiup at 12:30. Next is the Men’s 4.0B team captained by Shane Grevin and Steve Hanak. They finished 3rd and will play Galvin Park @ Galvin Sunday at 1:15. The Women’s 3.0 A team lead by Kerry Enright and Sharon Mcauley placed 4th and will play Fountain Grove on Sunday at Fountaingrove at 2:30. Last but not least the Womens 3.5B team captained by Laura Brazil and Ivy Donnelly placed 3rd and will hit the road on Saturday to play La Cantera at 9am. Join me in wishing all our teams good luck in their quest to make it to District playoffs!

PTA Board has two vacancies: Our PTA Board has been together a little over a year now and two of our Directors need to move on as their lives are very busy! I want to personally thank both Kerry Enright and Anne Howatt for their time and dedication in getting the PTA up and running again! You both will be truly missed. With that said, the Board is seeking candidates to fill their seats. There is so much to do and accomplish to keep this great game of tennis growing in our community. If you are passionate about tennis and are willing to put that energy into your community, the board would welcome you to throw your hat into the ring! We meet once a month and communicate via email between meetings. If you have interest, please send an email directly to me at cmhtoad@gmail.com

PTA cuts a deal for our members with Synergy Fitness Center! Synergy Fitness center has agreed to give members of the PTA a special corporate membership for their facility with reduced rates and initiation fees. Details will be released July first with a formal letter from the Synergy management. I will pass that on as soon as it is received.

Leghorn Resurfacing Project: The first big project that the PTA is initiating is the resurfacing of the Leghorn Tennis courts. The PTA and the City of Petaluma will work together to raise funds as soon as possible so we can move forward quickly. The Board has identified and will be inviting certain members to form a fund raising committee to assist us in the process. If you have expertise or are willing to put some time and effort in getting this project through I welcome your energy. Again, send me an email at cmhtoad@gmail.com Donations can be made directly to this project by going to the PTA Website and clicking on the donation page. All donations are tax deductible..

SPECIAL EVENT “WILSON SPORTS DEMO/FITTING DAY AND ROUND ROBIN MIXER” Set the date aside for Saturday July 15th at Petaluma High School for a day full of tennis fun for the whole family. Starting at 9am there will be two Round Robin Mixers, 9 to 10:30 and 10:30 to noon. Following the round robin will be a Wilson Play Day from Noon to 4 sponsored by Wilson Sports. They will bring all the new racquets to try and all their new shoe lines to try on. Plenty of prizes and give aways. Ball machines will be set up to hit on along with drills and games for both adults and kids. Look for the flyer coming out and the email for players to sign up for the round robins. We will take 10 men/10 women for each round robin.

Next USTA League is right around the corner! The very popular USTA ADULT MENS AND WOMENS 18+ COMBO LEAGUE will be open for team registration starting July 1st. For those of you new to Combo, this is a league made up of two different rated players. A match is 3 lines of doubles. For example: 6.5 combo is a 3.0/3.5 team, 7.5 is a 3.5/4.0 team, and so on. We have plenty of players in our association to field multiple teams and possibly multiple teams in the same division. I NEED CAPTAINS!!!!!!!!!!!. The best thing is to get co-captains that represent both ratings on the team. If you have interest in being a captain, the time is now to step up and start recruiting and forming your teams! Send me an email ASAP if you are willing to step up. AS captain, you can form you own team and your team fees are paid for by the USTA!!!!!!!

PTA to field 3 Sonoma/Napa/Marin teams out of Leghorn Park! Starting in the fall, close to 80 ladies will play for the PTA! Great turn out and let’s bring a few championships home!

Your membership dues are hard a work. The PTA will be replacing two nets at the Leghorn courts within the next few days. The PTA will also donate $500 to Petaluma High School and Casa Grande High School to assist in paying for match and practice balls for the Girl’s and Boy’s tennis teams. Thank you membership!

That’s a wrap for now. Please forward this email on to as many of your tennis friends and families as we want our association to grow in numbers as there is strength in numbers! Please check out our PTA Website be sure and follow us on our PTA FB page

Joining the association is easy, just go to the website and click on the membership page.

On behalf of your Board of Directors, thank you for your support and being a part of growing this great game in our community!
