Fun summer event opportunity for Petaluma art organizations

Dear Community Arts Leader:

The Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition and the City of Petaluma’s Climate Ready program are bringing an exciting event to town Sunday, July 17 and your organization is invited to participate!

CICLOVÍA is a free community event that:

  • Closes the street to cars and opens it to people – on foot, bicycles, roller skates, skateboards, etc.
  • Focuses on physical activity and community building
  • Opens the imagination to different ways to use our streets

The event will take place in/on/around Petaluma Boulevard and the Lynch Creek Trail. While there will be Activity Hubs in Walnut Park and Lucchesi Park, there will be all sorts of things happening in the street as well!

WHAT KINDS OF ACTIVITIES MIGHT BE INCLUDED?

  • Exercise classes (Zumba, yoga, aerobics)
  • Games (cornhole, giant Jenga, giant Scrabble)
  • Music, dance, martial arts demos & performances
  • Crafts activities
  • Bicycle safety/skills course
  • Tightrope or slackline, juggling
  • Climbing wall
  • Health education & screenings

We are limited only by the creativity of all our participants!

WHAT ACTIVITIES WON’T BE INCLUDED?

  • Vendors of any kind – this is about DOING things, not BUYING/SELLING things
  • Food – participants are encouraged to patronize our local restaurants
  • Existing businesses on the street may expand out into the sidewalk and/or offer special deals

HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?

We are offering nonprofits a 10’ by 10’ space at the event; we encourage you to use it to engage visitors in an interactive way! We also will have performance/demo/hands-on opportunities throughout the day. In exchange, we ask for either a small contribution to event expenses OR 3-5 volunteers to assist (info booth, crossing guard, t-shirt sales, etc.) If you have another idea, we’d love to hear it!

If you’re interested, let us know and we’ll send you a more detailed application.

We hope you will come play in the street with us!
