Whitherward is the partnership between singer-songwriters Ashley E. Norton and Edward A. Williams. Founded in Nashville in December of 2013, the duo has built a catalog of varied, intricate songs that explore the effects of the human condition. Growing tired of the music industry warfare, Ash and Ed set off to play music they love for people who love music. In 2015, the duo threw their belongings into storage and never looked back. They grew into full-time touring artists, embarking on several cross-country non-stop loops, while releasing four EP’s from their Subaru. Now, after 4 EP releases, the band has produced their first full length album, completely independently. “The Anchor,” crowd-funded without the platforms of kickstarter, indie-gogo or go-fund-me, was produced, engineered written and recorded by Whitherward at Gold Capp Studio’s, with the co-production of violinist Stephanie Groot, bassist Patrick Hershey, help of Tony King on drums and studio owner, Thomas Max Massano, on assistant engineering. The duo has been heavily promoting the album at their shows across the country and beyond, as they’ll be hitting their first overseas tour to England this September. They’ve been compared to a modern-day Simon & Garfunkle, Penny & Sparrow, The Civil Wars, and influences of rock, folk, jazz, singer/songwriter and trip-hop. The hard-hitting lyrical style, supported by thunderous vocals, string sections and dueling guitars, brings a new dimension to the indie-folk world. “Whitherward” is an old English word meaning “In which direction?” So we ask you…Whitherward leith the way home?
