A Call To Action
PCRC to Host How Petaluma Became the Leader of Crisis Intervention in Sonoma County
FOR IMMEDIATE REALESE: January 18, 2022 Contact: Erica Stuart, firstname.lastname@example.org
In 2020 Petaluma City leaders were tasked with finding a way to provide services designed to assist law enforcement in addressing emergency situations involving mental health, addiction, and homelessness. In response, Petaluma partnered with Petaluma People Services (PPSC), and on July 5, 2021, they launched Specialized Assistance for Everyone (SAFE). A team of civilian first responders are now first to arrive on scene following calls for service for crisis intervention, which have traditionally, (and often unnecessarily) been the purview of law enforcement, emergency medical services and health care providers. PCRC is set to host a Zoom forum that will focus on this first of its kind program in Sonoma County that is now in its sixth month of operation.
Date: Wednesday, January 26, 2022
Time: 7 PM to 8:30 PM
PRCR will moderate a 7-member panel to discuss the needs, services, activity, impacts and what the city has learned from this program, as well as SAFE’s plans moving forward. That panel will include: Elece Hemple, Petaluma People Services Center (PPSC); Chief Ken Savano, Petaluma Police Department and Petaluma Deputy Police Chief Brian Miller; Manning Walker- SAFE Team Leader; two SAFE Team members; and Jeff Schach, interim Chief for the Petaluma Fire Department,
Petaluma City Manager, Peggy Flynn, will provide a brief overview of Petaluma’s SAFE program, which will include how it originated and why it was created.
The Zoom forum will allow for the public to ask questions before, and during the event. Please submit questions to email@example.com.
