Please join us for an evening of art, conversation, wine, and refreshments. Original artwork as well as clothing, mugs, special edition teas and coffees, and other merchandise and art prints will be available for sale. All proceeds directly fund AWOL’s arts programming. AWOL will also be officially unveiling their brand new website www.artwithoutlabels.com featuring merchandise and art prints designed by the AWOL artists. AWOL artists will be present in the gallery to meet the public and introduce their work.

Live Performance by Capoeira Petaluma

A Dance? A Fight? A Game? Capoeira is a unique blend of movement and music that draws on rich Afro-Brazilian roots. Legend has it that Capoeira was developed in secret by African peoples, enslaved by the Portuguese to work Brazilian sugar plantations. In scarce moments of respite, or hidden in the tall cane fields, they would gather to revive memories of their homeland in music and dance – and kindle sparks of hope through the practice of fighting techniques. Practiced to the rhythm of ancient African instruments, Capoeira builds strength and flexibility, and can be adapted to any age, body type or physical ability.
